My Favourite Places ‘Up North’

Having been born in Lincolnshire and then lived in two of the big Northern cities, Sheffield and Leeds, it’s fair to say I’ve lived a rather Yorkshire-fuelled existence.

There are so many places I love in the North so let’s jump right into my faves.

Is it cheating if I pick a whole town as one of my favourite places? I hope not because Scarborough is a firm favourite for me. As a child I spent almost every other weekend in Scarborough at my Grandparent’s house, so it’s a place that’s filled with happy memories for me. I recently went back to visit and it still held the very same charm as it did more than 15 years ago for me. (Wow, that makes me feel old!)

Yeah, it’s another seaside! I only recently visited Whitby and I loved it. Whitby Abbey is so beautiful if you can hack the stairs up to it! (It’s worth it, because the view is amazing!). It also has a music festival and loads of Gothic events inspired by Bram Stoker who dreamt up the famous character, Dracula while he was staying in Whitby.

Ladybower Reservoir, Sheffield

If I’m ever stuck indoors and I feel the urge to get out, I head straight to Ladybower Reservoir in Sheffield. I’ll think I’ll let the photos speak for themselves here.

Chester Zoo

How could I write a list of my favourite places in the North and not include a zoo? Chester zoo is amazing. Just look at the elephants! When my boyfriend asked where I wanted to go for my twenty second birthday, this was the first place I thought of!

Cleethorpes Beach

Having spent 18 years of my life living 10 minutes from the seaside, it’s pretty weird feeling somewhat landlocked now I live in Leeds. So maybe Cleethorpes isn’t the prettiest or warmest of beaches but it still has fish and chips, great ice cream and the slotties so it has to be up there on my favourites.

I adore Chester zoo. I’m currently studying Animal Behaviour at the university of chester and it would be silly for me not get buy myself a seasonal ticket! It’s such a lovely place to just walk peacefully around the enclosures. Going at empty time periods is my favourite as it’s especially peaceful. I have never been to the other places you mentioned but they all seem lovely!
